Above is a photo of the home of Mr & Mrs Oswald Janisse, located at what would be 1156 Ouellette Ave today. The photo above dates to 1924. The house was built around 1921 by Oswald Janisse.
Oswald, along with his brother Eugene, ran the Janisse Brothers Realty company which was established in 1913. They quickly realized that waterfront property was a desirable asset and cornered the market and made a small fortune doing so.
Following the depression and WWII Oswald and his wife had relocated to Ferndale, MI when she passed away in 1949. He passed away at age 79 in 1962 in Orland Park, IL, near Chicago. He was brought back to Windsor for his funeral and was buried at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
As the the house, it was located on the east side of Ouellette between Erie and Gilles, south of the hospital, and beside the apartment building above. As best as I can tell it was demolished to make way for the Viscount Hotel, which once stood on the site above. The architect of the house is unknown.
