A weekend with minimal rain! Art In The Park, 2009 edition went off without a hitch this past weekend. I was there Sunday afternoon and looked like a good turnout.
As usual, an interesting assortment of wares for sale.
The north east corner of the park was, however, noticeably empty. The economy certainly took its toll on the number of vendors this year. Usually the entire perimeter of the park is filled with booths. Not this year.
A nice touch this year, was the wine tent/bandshell. In the photo above Sunday afternoon headliners The Bomb Squad are shown playing. Hopefully the bandshell makes a return visit in 2010.

Also – Please note, with today’s post I’m going to move to a Summer Posting schedule (at least for the next little bit). Instead of finding a post here Monday through Friday, I’ll now be posting Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
Thanks for the understanding.

This looks a lot like the Lasalle Strawberry Festival. I had a lot less booth this year, compared to other years, with the most noticeable the Food venders that used to line the whole 1 side, which only went 1/2 way down. The Ride area was also down about 3 major young adult & adult rides, and down 1 Kid ride, and some games. But the crowds were still there tho.
Great weekend for Art in the Park and the Strawberry Festival. Too bad that vendors are going down in this tough economy, but there are still a lot of people willing to support these community activities.

The Art in the Park was awesome this Year, The entertainment and Band shell we’re a nice touch as well as the Art Gallery exhibit inside Willistead Manor. My family and I arrived around 11:00 and we we’re there until 5:00 later that day. The advance tickets are a great deal and they included a free fries with lunch.
I talked to on of the organizers at on Saturday and she told me why the North East corner was vacant was due to the area becoming a mud pit if there is heavy rain. She told me that venders was scramble to move their booths from that area. I did notice that this area of the park has very little shade. There has been over 320 vendors in the past and this year there was around 200. I was told that the organizers find that this is a good number.
I wonder if anyone noticed the 45 min line up for the large popcorn near the east entrance. I guess that popcorn must be well worth the wait.
The event must have been a success when it pulled in 5000 more then Average.
Over-all I think Art in The Park was put together very well this Year and I will look forward to going in the future.
CDM - I agree with the bandshell, I spent more time, and lingered longer than usual.
I was happy to hear the attendance numbers were up this year.
