A special thanks goes out to Chris Edwards from Walkerville Publishing for the tip on today’s entry. This place is literally four blocks from my house and I had never noticed it in the seven years I’ve been living here… Again, more local history hiding in plain sight…
Located on Langlois just north of Niagara, is what appears to be just another run of the mill, inner-city rental property.
However, as you look at the north side of the property you’ll see what strangely looks like a tower of some sort… A quick check has revealed Fire Hall No. 3. It was active at least though the 1920’s. Anyone out there know when it was closed?
The view from the alley gives a good view of the building and tower.

I found the photo above on the windsorfire.com website. The caption reads:
Closing old station No.5 Wellington Street at Wyandotte Street West, November 25, 1961.
If you compare it to my first photo, you can see that both stations must have been built from the same plans.

It's for sale too. I wonder what our history is going for these days?
$229K. The listing says it's a four-plex on a 60'x150' lot. $55K an apartment is a lot for Walkerville, especially since it's probably been roughed up pretty bad by tenants over years, which I can tell because a) the agent doesn't post pictures of the interior online and b) the listing states that the seller is motivated to sell.

And maybe this station was the home to a Seagrave engine at one time!
It's a lot for Walkerville, considering it isn't in Walkerville.
:)
It's on Langlois, one block east of Parent, between Erie and Wyandotte.
Well that would be the "east end" then, Andrew. ;)
Well, then, someone should set the listing agent straight for claiming it's in "Old Walkerville."
Real Estate agents will always "bend" the truth in a listing to make the property seem better than it is. Take a look at the open house listings in the Saturday Windsor Star, it will blow your mind what they list houses under... Look under the Walkerville listings and you'll regularily find houses that aren't in Walkerville listed.
The same goes for other "districts" as well.
I learned something new today. Thanks Andrew. What is odd is the design of these firehouses. But I guess it blends better into a neighbourhood than the traditional 2-3 level house does.
There is a house on Felix that also loks like it served an previous use as maybe a firehall or some civic function aswell. And one on Mill St. too.
