So yeah… I drove from Tecumseh, MI to Ypsi-tucky the other day. Here are the “highlights”.

Al Meyers Airport.
From the Michigan Marker out front:
The Al Meyers Airport is a privately owned airport designed for public use. It was established in 1939 -40 by a twenty-seven-year-old airman, designer and manufacturer, Al Meyers (1908 – 1976). When World War II broke out, Meyers received a contract to build planes for pilot training under the Civilian Pilot Training Program. He selected Tecumseh for his production site. His government contract ended just prior to the close of the war; however, he continued to manufacture planes for private use until 1966. This field, originally the Tecumseh Municipal Airport, was renamed Al Meyers Airport in 1975. The airport is still privately owned and is used for transporting manufactured goods and for the restoration of all types of airplanes, especially the Meyers plane.
However, it still doesn’t explain how or why there is a DC-8 cockpit there. The best part? There’s not only this one, there’s another one too…

A mighty McDonnel-Douglas DC-8
As I was shooting the DC-8, I heard a rumble over head, just in time to see the Yankee Air Museum’s B-17 take to the skies.
On the other side of the airport is this old DC-6. This one was built in 1956. It used to belong to Alitalia way back when, and later Zantop International Airlines. It is now part of the Yankee Air Museum’s collection.

Andrew, I am a big fan of your work with International Metropolis. I really enjoyed the photo above of the B-17 from the Yankee Air Museum. The quality of your photos is superb from a technical as well as a framing perspective. I have an uncle that was a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress during WWII. He was part of the 8th Air Force stationed in England somewhere and was highly decorated for valor. Keep up the good work!

I live on senic Ridge Hwy..Its said to be the shoreline of Lake Erie before it receded eons ago.The first photo is the old Fisher Body plant just south of tecumseh.At Meyers airport they offer skydiving there and the cockpits are used sometimes to train jumpers.

As for the B-17 shots, that was really a case of being in the right place at the right time. Also if she was a jet and not a prop, I would have had much less time to frame it up :)
A long long time ago (I was in college at EMU) I dated a girl from a place far far away (Brooklyn, MI) and as much as I enjoyed her company, in retrospect I may have enjoyed the ride on U.S. 12 from Ypsi to Cambridge Junction as much or more. Thanks Andrew for reminding us that there is life away from the Interstate.
BTW, is that a seed company or a feed plant in the "somewhat rural" photo?

I think it's just a grain storage facility. I believe that it's on Ridge Road.
