White Rose Station – Howard & Tecumseh – 1953

• It was where the Lumberjack is now.

  But there was a PetroCan where the Tim Hortons is now, and I believe it would have been a B.P. previously, as was the PetroCan at Ouellette and Tecumseh.

  I forwarded this link to someone whose father operated a White Rose - I believe it was this station - for a time. He'll know for sure.

• It was common to find 2 competing gas stations at the same intersection maybe 3 at a prime location. I also remember there was a Firestone store with 2 or 3 service bays just west of where the Tim Horton's is today.

• There was a Shell station on the south west corner of the intersection way back.
  Believe it closed around the mid 70's. I could be wrong, but wasn't White Rose bought out by Shell?

• The NE corner of Howard and Tecumseh (aka the Shopper's site) had a large brown brick building on it in the early 1970s. It had a beautiful fountain in front of the building. Was that the WUC building? I ask because the building sat vacant with overgrown weeds for what seemed like a decade or more until the American Motors dealership, which later became Windsor Jeep Eagle, took over the site. The WUC doesn't typically let their buildings become eyesores, even if they are not being used.

• The Petro Can stations in this area could have been ex-Fina, ex-BP (formerly Supertest), ex-Gulf (formerly B/A) and most recently ex-Sunoco. Back in 1953 neither BP nor Gulf would have existed. Both arrived in the early 1970s. They would have been Supertest or B/A stations. Supertest "All Canadian" and B/A "All the Way"!

• Fina was at the northeast corner of Tecumseh Rd., E. & Marentette Ave. Closed in early 70s.
