Ouellette & Pitt – c. 1929

A view of Ouellette Avenue at the end of the boom years. This shot shows the two major local downtown department stores, Bartlet, MacDonald & Gow as well as C. H. Smith’s. Of all the buildings visible in this picture, only one still stands today, and is the current home of the Loose Goose Pub.

  • Interesting about the Loose Goose being part of the original building. I thought A&W had built the building housing the Loose Goose about 1977 as a stand alone restaurant. Looking at the foot print of the CIBC and the parking lot that was Smith's (on street-view)it doesn't look like the space jives to be part of the original building. Can anyone confirm?

  • Not likely the Loose Goose is original and survived the wrecking ball- I believe the entire block was levelled but you never know!

  • I've been in the Loose Goose as well. .. It has the same era/feel to it as does Chanoso's..... old!

  • I think that was Bondy Shoe store I remember it being between Smiths and Bartlets That is going back a lot of years now.
