Back a long time ago, Windsor used to be proud of having independent businesses. Now it’s all about the big box chains. A nifty ad for the long gone Consumers Wallpaper Company. Located at Wyandotte and Goyeau on the north west corner, this one is long gone. I think they were around for a long time though… Does the name ring a bell with anyone?
Have a good weekend everyone, I’ll see you back here Monday.

Nice building! Too bad this met the fate of the wrecking ball.
I agree Andrew. But the issue here is once again Windsor is hemmed by suburbia much like Detroit was/is. We can't grow and the bog box stores are visited by many suburbanites; making them thrive.
But Windsorites are just as guilty. How many bumper stickers do you see with "out of a job yet...." parked at big box stores? Yet we have independant businesses here that are close to price but service levels that are far superior!
I was recently driving in the downtown Hamtramck area just off the main drive and they too are suffering. The neighborhood I drove through had some abandoned houses torn down by the city, with some State & Federal money granted them, the lots were cleared of those houses. A couple weeks later I went through the same neighborhood, and low and behold the foundations were poured on those lots, so new houses were going up , to fill in the gaps. This would be unheard of in Detroit or Windsor ? While driving a couple blocks over from my home on the east side off Pillette 2 houses were recently torn down & low and behold new homes are going up.I think a lot of it has to do with the location of these derelict structures as people obviously like to live in this area ???
I remember this place, it was the only place my dad and mom would buy any paint or wallpaper. When I got married in '67, it's the first place I went to in order to spruce up our old house. I don't know when it was demolished though.
