St. Paul’s Mission

Today’s photo is marked “St. Paul’s Mission, Windsor” and dated January 21, 1925.

I can’t find much on this church. There is no listing in the 1924 directory for a St. Paul’s.

Locally there is a Catholic St. Paul’s in LaSalle, on Pillette a St. Paul’s United and in Essex a St. Paul’s Anglican.

I suspect that the Pillette location is most likely. As I know the church began life as a mission of All Saints. However their website indicates it wasn’t known as St. Paul’s until 1929.

Anyone out there a member of any of these churches?

  • The Sign in the background is for McCreery's Jewelers which was original jewelery store at the Pepper's location at park and Oullette before Birks was there

According to the 1923 Vernon's Directory McCreery was south of London street (university ) at that time, probably the same location although the address numbering has changed. So the sign in the background of this picture is not on the side of the a store but just a billboard

  • Looks like Vicki above had it right all along...

This building on Ouellette (actually fronting Pelissier) is now home to J.P. Tompson architects & engineers:

It was built as St. Paul's in 1948, but I found an article dealing with the opening of the building above, where it references how the new building is replacing the old temporary mission building.

That article from October 15, 1949 reads as follows:

"The new church building will be used for all church services and activities in the future. The former building that has been in use since 1925 has been sold and will be moved to Remington Park where it will be used for an Anglican Church."

So it looks like everyone who called out Remington Park as the location for this building was also right.

    Another mystery solved!

  • Black and white photo on the top of the page, definetely looks like St. Paul's R.C. Church in La Salle.
