This old Arts & Crafts bungalow on University Ave. west, between Janette and Caron, always intrigued me. A throwback to the days when University was lined with residences all the to downtown.
Sadly this house which was long neglected, and only used for storage, went up in flames this past Thursday night. The fire department has listed the cause as “undetermined”, and the city has issued a demolition order on the property.
It’s too bad, although it was surrounded on all sides by commercial properties, it was still a good example of the architectural style. Another hole in the Windsor streetscape.

While listening to this on the WFD radio we have at work, they were saying the place had no power to it, so electrical fire is out of the question.they were calling in the arson people. They were also scrambling for working hydrants....which seems to be a growing trend in the city. I'm glad bubby's wasn't hurt too bad though.
Never realized the hydro poles on university had been changed fairly recently. I thought those concrete ones had been there for years.
Aaron, top photo is from July 2002, so the swap happened sometime in the last 8 years...
Insurance fraud, the question is will the firestarter be caught?
