This house, located on the east side of Monmouth, just north of the recently rehabbed Deluxe Apartments, which we looked at back in May. In fact, this photo of the house is a crop from that photo.
Yesterday afternoon, this is what the house looked like. All gone.
The house beside it is in the middle of getting the same treatment. I’m sure demolition will be finished soon, if it isn’t already.
So what’s the plan for the site? As you can see above the houses are located adjacent to the school, and as I drove past yesterday, they were busy cramming portables onto the site.
So is it an expanded playground to make up for the room lost by the portables, or is it for a dreaded parking lot?

Those units are indeed going down to make way for more play area for the children. The new portables are locating closer to the school proper. No need to worry about parking because the school purchased a couple of lots for that behind the school off of Walker. Too bad that they didn't take the Deluxe Apartments too as all three buildings facilitate some very illicit and seedy activities.
I'm wondering if they salvaged anything from these houses? I am sure there was some things that could have been used in other reno projects.
ME, when will you learn... Salvage doesn't happen in Windsor.
Well it is sad to see a couple of houses go down, but these aren't stunning examples of architecture at least. And the land will be used for children to play on, which is a good use. So all in all, a decent result for once.
I've been wandering Toronto's Junction neighbourhood this week (writing an article on it -- Dundas and Keele area) and it's full of salvage shops that do a brisk business. Seems like an opportunity for somebody in Windsor to get on.
What illicit and seedy activities?
Did a stucco firm move in there?
The afforementioned "Deeluxe Apartments" are located kitty corner to the Bennett Apartments, site of the famous Bennett Pies.
A very well written article detailing them can be found here : http://www.walkervilletimes.com/bennett.htm#
BTW, this site now looks great with the Camino browser.
Thanks Michelle. I found a more up to date version of the code for the theme...
