Proposed Church Of Christ

Some recent comments on an old post from March 2007, reminded me that I had a follow up to that post lurking on my hard drive, waiting for the opportunity to be posted.

From the Border Cities Star, May 11, 1929:

This is an architect’s sketch of the proposed new Gilles Boulevard Christian Church which is to be erected on the corner of Gilles Boulevard and Goyeau Street, Windsor.

The edifice will replace a frame church that for years has been in use as the home of the congregation, and is to cost approximatley $40,000. A campaign for funds, carried on for the past two weeks by Rev. Herbert J. Bass, pastor, and Evangelist George L. Snively; of Lewiston, Ill., has been sucessful.

The plans were drawn up by the local firm Cameron & Ralston, however something must have happened…

I can only assume the great depression took a toll, as the church wasn’t actually built until 1931, and looked nothing like the planned version above…

Another part of unbuilt Windsor…
