So after the long trip from Jackson Park to the Mall at the end of April, the Lanc has made its way to the airport where she’ll under go restoration to be able to taxi around, but sadly not fly. There are only two Lancs in the world that still fly. (Also, note that the proper tires are back on, they were removed to give the movers a lower clearance height during the move. See the link above to see the Lanc with the temporary tires.)
Still wingless, there is a small hangar being built that will house the Lanc during the restoration process. You can see the steel frame rising in the rear of the aircraft.
The wings are close by, and are also undergoing restoration.
For the first time in more than 40 years this great WWII era flying machine is back on the tarmac at an airport.

Looks great sitting on the tarmac. Nice shots.
I've posted a link to this blog at The Torch
Nice to see the plane will be getting much needed attention. Is it possible that a museum will be built to include it and other aviation items? Maybe the club at Willow Run could lend a hand.
During WW2 there was a Flying School located at the Windsor Airport. Back in the 50's several of the old barracks were purchased and moved. One is the Weigh Station next to and N of EC Row at Howard, one is behind the plaza on 3300 block Walker Rd, (Was a gym when this plaza was Walker School), one became the Air Force Club and was located on Tecumseh across from Jackson Park ( long gone). Were there any others?
