Today’s series is for all of my readers now residing in the big smoke. I was up amongst you this weekend.

View along Bloor Street at Daniel Libeskind‘s addition to the R.O.M. While I can appreciate some modern architecture, when you slap it onto a classical 1930’s era building, it’s bound to look funny and out of place.

The original section is a great building , adorned with great sculpture.

One of the many figures found on the outside.

The rotunda is a great work of art in itself.

Imagine having to lay all the tiles in this mosaic?

The stairs leading away from the mezzanine.

Looking north up Yonge Street from my hotel.

View to the east along the lakefront.

The windows in the hotel could have been a little cleaner, but here is a similar view at night.

I love shooting long exposures of movement. The Gardiner Expressway proved too tempting to ignore…

  • I suspect your hotels is 1 King West -- the ultra narrow hotel.

As for the ROM, I think there is little you can do with an old building but attach it to something completely different -- trying to match old-style today often doesn't work. The ROM will be magnificent.

  • You are correct sir.

It is funny, but when you're inside, you have no sense of the narrowness of the structure at all.
