Photo Du Jour – November 21, 2005 – Holy Cross Church, Delray

With all the recent talk about a new bridge crossing through Delray, it would seem that very little thought has been given to the Delray neighborhood. Everyone is quick to say that Delray is the perfect location, but what about the historic architecture that is there?

Has any though been given to Holy Cross?

Well kept in Delray is this great church.

A fixture since 1924

What’s the story behind this school building? Is it still in use?

Hopefully Holy Cross is spared when the new bridge comes though.

Hopefully this isn’t a repeat of Poletown, and some of Delray will survive.

  • Parish is still very active. Most of the folks come from the Burbs. Still draws in people from the community. Stays alive mainly through the various wealthy parish members. This is not to say they are a rich parish, by no means. I would even question some of the tactics they use to get money. However, still its probably the one thing in delray that is not screwed up. Totally independent of the Arch Diocese.

  • Nice pics.. Delray has such a history behind it, too bad it's been negeleted. I went to a Christian school on Dearborn St. Now called "Peter's Rock Missionary Baptist Church" That's where I Met Jesus. :)
