It’s funny how quickly we can forget what used to be on the site of our empty lots today. For example the parking lot on the north east corner of Wyandotte and Windermere was once a block with four shops on the main floor and apartments above. I’m sure that those who frequent Walkerville would love to have four more shops there today to frequent. On the night of the famous blackout of August 14, 2003, a fire broke out in one of the second floor apartments and the entire block ended up being demolished, and replaced with the vacant lot there today.
It’s just further proof that once things are demolished, and lots become vacant, they don’t get replaced. Even in trendy hopping Walkerville.
It’s hard to remember that the block touched the side of the garage…
It’s a shame that something similar wasn’t built on the site. This was urban, mixed use at it’s finest.

In the 50's and 60's this was Nessels Dry Goods stretching across the entire bottom floor.Upstairs was some sort of service club, don't remember which one.
How depressing.
How normal.
At least we won't have to look at that corrugated tin siding any more.
So frustrating to see that gap in the street. Defiantly an opportunity to develop some retail and apartment space that would likely be snapped up quickly.
