Today’s photo comes courtesy of my brother who happened by Erie and Bruce yesterday. We first looked at this place back in October, 2008. If you take a look at the pictures in that post, you’ll see a copy of the order posted to the building. That order was:
AN ORDER TO DEMOLISH THE BUILDING AND CLEAR THE SITE ON OR BEFORE AUGUST 1, 2008.
Demolition finally got under way yesterday.
So…
From and including: Friday, August 1, 2008
To and including: Tuesday, May 1, 2012
It is 1370 days since the original deadline to have the site cleared.
Or 3 years, 9 months, 1 day.
This should leave someone very ashamed and embarrassed.

I think that should be Erie St. West, not East
Yes. Fixed.
this slum is 2 blocks from where i live on Bruce i'm glad to finally see it go but i doubt anything will be be built there for years to come just another just another weed infested emty lot i'd like to know when the wrecker's ball is gonna fall on that house next to BUBI's
How did those places get in such bad condition? Or are they older than they appear? The building doesn't look that old to me.
I think the owners just forget about them for years from what i understand on the east end of the building suposedly the south wall was ready to cave in
Right you are Gary! I'm wondering what the hell they are going to do with that house next to Bubi's. It's going to collapse on someone's car parked out front one day, or even worse a kid playing on the sidewalk! This city is shameful.
Gary,
Due ot the way the legislation is in Ontario Bubi's does not have to demo the building because they are looking to expand Bubi's. If they were to demo the building completely they would have to be within 3 feet of the land boundary on the alleyway. If they leave the building and build "around it" IE: leave 2 walls standing; they can build the new addition right up to the property line as the buliding existed before the new legislation from Queen's Park was adopted.
Therefore expect it to sit like that for another year. The city can't do anything about it. In fact Counc. Valentinis was trying to get it demo'ed when he found this out. It is #2 on his top 10 lists of houses that are decrepit and need to go.
tear that schitt down!
Thanks Dave i wasn't even aware that Bubi's owned the property i thought it was more dithering on city council's part they keep talking about urban blight but seem to move on it at a snails pace
The buildings at 501 Erie were built in the 20's but someone put a new facade on them in the 1970's? The rear wall has been threatening to collapse for the last decade..Bad reno or poor construction to start with, I don't know
