  • Visits to the Chicken Court were a family tradition starting in the early 1950s when our family moved to Windsor from Toronto. By 1956 I was taking swimming lessons at the YMCA next door, which were sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Our next door neighbour took me to these sessions, which were held in the evening, and after the swim we emerged into the cold, winter night air with a tinge of coal smoke to it. In a short time we were at a table in the Chicken Court, ready for a piece of pie. I notice the Chicken Court telephone number was in the CLearwater exchange, and our number in Riverside was WHitehall 5-9998. As with most residents on Esdras Place we shared a party line. People in South Windsor could be identified with the YOrktown prefix. Belle River and most of Essex County still placed all their calls through the operator.

  • I just barely remember the chicken court, but I could never forget their Mocha Torte Cake. My mother bought it for each of our birthdays and I have become addicted to it... Now the Pastry Table on Tecumseh road has the recipe and it is to die for. IF ANYONE CAN PROVIDE ME WITH THE AUTHENTIC RECIPE FOR THE MOCHA TORTE, I would be willing to pay a cash finders fee. $XXX, let me know. Thanks

  • I remember buying french fries for take out when I was always at the Y. I always remember the fries. Did they put a seasoning on them?

  • I remember ordering their veal cutlets with mashed potatoes, gravy and coleslaw -- and they delivered it! Their food was fantastic.

  • I was transferred to the Windsor Weather Office in 1968. I spent over 7 years working there. One of the go to spots was the chicken court. I especially enjoyed the fried chicken with honey and a strawberry dessert.

  • When I was 16 years old, my dad died. My mom and I had no money. Andy and his wife gave me a job washing dishes. They treated me like family. And there was always left over chicken at the end of the day that they let the employees take home. I wish I had kept working there, I miss them.
