This building was originally home to Tepperman’s Furniture Store. It was clad in corrugated metal, and spent many years as a CAW hall. The new owners mercifully removed the corrugated metal, and prior to covering it in stucco, allowed it to briefly grace Ottawa Street with its glass block windows and glazed buff brick once again.

They should just clean it up and maybe put an awning around the building to cover up the mess above the doors & windows. That old style brick and the glass blocks are awesome. Way better then that crappy looking stucco.

I remember the old Tepperman's when it was the largest furniture emporium in the city. Back in those days Ottawa was a vital commercial artery and boasted Whitman's Furniture, Gray's Department Store, The Brotherhood Men's Clothiers, Woolworths and Diane's Shoes. When Tepperman's on Ottawa closed in the early 1980's it marked the end of Ottawa days as an important retail hub.
True enough, george, but in spite of the absence of big gun retailers like the ones you mentioned, Ottawa street still seems to hold its own over the years. (You don't see too many empty store fronts.)
A great memory. I used to stand outside to watch a 7 inch tv in the front window after I finished working at Tamblyn's drug store every evening. My parents bought most of their furniture there.

We were having a debate at home the other day and need help with the answer. There was a grocery store on Ottawa street on north side of road. This is at the same time that Mackenzie’s Knechtel’s was open. It is not Rocco’s. This would have also been during the 80?s.We believe it was not a large chain store such as A&P or Dominion. If anyone knows the answer to this great mystery that would be greatly appreciated.
