Berlin Photos

I’m back from vacation, and I will be posting some of the more interesting photos over the span of this week.

Here are a few from my first day in Berlin.

This is the S-Bahn train from Shonefeld Airport into the city. Note the grafitti proof pattern on the seats.

An older storefront along the Kurfurstendamm, an upscale shopping street. Think Cartier, and Gucci… etc…

The 1960’s have left their mark architecturally on this city as much rebuilding was done during this period following the war.

The ruins of The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The church was built in 1891, and it had the shit bombed out of it in 1943. The architectural mess beside it is the new church that was built in 1951. The building was preserved in its ruined state as a memorial to the horrors of war.

In the old East Berlin, there is a par with giant statues of Marx & Engels.

The Fernsehturm (german for TV Tower) was built by the GDR goverment in 1969.

The remains of the Palast der Republik, the old East German Parliament Building. It is currently under demolition. One of the relics of Cold War. As some one who grew up as a child of the cold war era, even it’s its semi-demolished, and now irrelevant state, it was still an odd feeling to be standing in front of, and looking at the old GDR Parliament building.

The Berliner Dom, built in 1905 it was badly damaged during the war. Reconstruction began in 1975, and wasn’t completed until 1993.
