Synagogue Hunting

I was looking over an old map, and it showed on Hickory, just south of Whelpton in the Ford City area of Windsor, the Ford City Synagogue.

Well this is the first reference I’ve ever seen to a Synagogue on that side of town, and if you are familiar with the area at all, you will know that commercial building become residential over there very easily. I thought the chance of the buiding still standing might be high, with a conversion into apartments or something. So always on the look out for hidden history in Windsor, I jumped in the car and headed across town….

Well, like a lot of things in Ford City, it’s long gone… A vacant lot has taken it’s place, just like the vacant lot that took the place of the Temple Theatre that was behind it.
