Photo Du Jour – December 2, 2005 – Mural Unveiling

Yesterday Morning saw the final mural in the “Postcards From Home” mural project unveiled in Downtown Windsor.

The mural is on the South Wall of the Windsor Star Building. Star Columnist Karen Hall is seen in the foreground with the blond hair. She served as the model reading the paper on the mural.

The Mural is a two part mural. The west half features the process of putting the paper together. From layout to press to delivery.

The east half features significant moments in Windsor’s History. The large imposing figure at the top is W.F. Herman, long time owner and publisher of the Windsor Star. In 1920 when he bought the land that the current Windsor Star Building sits on, he paid the $40,000 selling price in Cash. That was the largest Cash Real Estate transaction in Windsor’s history at the time.

The ceremony featured the usual speeches… Here Gordon Orr, head of the Visitor’s and Convention Bureau addresses the crowd.

Mayor Eddie Francis addresses the crowd.

Here is the ceremonial ribbon pull to unveil the mural. Mayor Eddie Francis and Windsor Star Editor Marty Beneteau are seen here just before the ribbon pull.

The Mural is a nice addition to the downtown core, and a fitting end to the project.
