Giles Boulevard Christian Church

I recently came across this plan from 1929 for the Giles Boulevard Christian Church. It was planned for the north east corner of Giles & Goyeau, where a much smaller Christian Church can be found. I would only imagine that the depression put an end to this plan. It was designed by Cameron & Ralston, who were at the peak of their career in 1929 following their Kennedy Collegiate project.

Colonial Tool

Located on the west side of Walker Road at Seneca Street is this factory belonging to the Colonial Tool Group. A handsome red brick building, with a two storey office building on the south end with decorative stone elements, they sure don’t build factories like they…

The First Elmwood Casino

The first version of the Elmwood Casino was located in the same spot. Opened in the early 1920s as the Elmcourt Tennis & Country club. Later on during the depression years, in 1934, the Elmwood Hotel opened in the old clubhouse of the Country Club. By the early…

Bronson's Tavern

I was going through some old photos the other days and came across one I had taken of Bronson’s Tavern TThe photo is from 2001 and the tavern closed shortly after. Image from Google Streetview From 2010, until the recent construction of the new building in late 2018, the site looked like it did above. From 1931 until 2010 the site was occupied by St Anthony of Padua Hungarian…

936 Windermere - Charles S Porter Residence

I have always been a fan of this house on Windermere Rd in Walkerville, just south of Niagara. The City Heritage Inventory lists this one as being built in 1916 by J.C. Pennington, but I think that that notation refers to an earlier house on the property, also owned by…

St Francis School - Tuscarora St

St Francis School – 1913 Located on the south side of Tuscarora Street, just west of Marentette, was the former St Francis Separate School. A building lost to Windsor’s history, but a building that I have recently discovered had a very interesting history.
