Here’s a proposal for a YMCA building from 1896, that never came to be. This one was planned for the north side of Ouellette Square which was the parade ground beside the Armouies (that wasn’t yet built) that was located where the Windsor Star is today (in the old Palace Theatre site).
The YMCA was planned for London Street (today University Avenue), and would have had a 50 foot frontage opposite the square. There would have been locker rooms and a pool in the basement, along with the gym on the basement and first floors. Meeting rooms, reading rooms, parlours and barber shop would have rounded out the rest of the building. The plans were drawn up by Windsor architect William T Williams of the Williams Brothers, who designed landmark Windsor churches Immaculate Conception on Wyandotte and Our Lady of the Rosary on Riverside Drive.
