Today we take a stroll over to 956 McDougall, just north of Erie St. and check out this building built in 1926.
From all outward appearances, it look like many other Hydro Substations around Windsor, built during the same era. However this one was the nerve centre of the street car system.
From the Border Cities Star, June 30, 1926:
THIS is an architect’s sketch of the new $137,000 convertor…

Everything Old Is New Again...
May 2, 2011
Today’s post idea comes from Urbanrat, who recently informed me about a discussion that took place about a new library/combination cultural centre that was talked about to help revitalize a dying downtown… The only difference is the headline below appeared in the Windsor Star on December 3, 1968.
43 years later almost the exact same discussion is happening again. Amazing how Windsor…

April 11, 2011
These cards come to us today from regular reader Vic. These are some great cards, they are new to me as I hadn’t seen either of them before.
This postcard shows the s.e. corner of Ontario & Lawrence Road in what was then Ford.
Built in 1922, this house was designated by the City in 2000.

Here’s the house today. A good write up on the house ran in the Walkerville…

Continuing with the postcard theme, here is an undated postcard, probably from the mid 1940’s, showing the Norton Palmer Hotel, which was located at Park and Pelissier.
It was built in 1927, and expanded in 1929. Designed by architects Hutton & Souter of Hamilton…
