These are all old photos that I had posted on the old site. From the collection of Bernie Drouillard, these were scanned and sent to me by John Stefani. Thanks to both of them for sharing the collection.
This shot from the 1940’s shows Tecumseh Road near Albert, were Transit Windsor (then S.W & A.) has a mini transit depot. Across the street from Windsor Assembly.
This is from the late 1930’s, it is a view of Mill Street in Windsor’s west end.

Geeze I remember as a kid waiting at both those mini-depots…they really hadn’t changed incredibly since those pics and what I remember as a kid in the early 80’s….. I remember always wondering whatthe driver was doing in that “tiny house” on Mill….I just wanted to get to my grandma’s hehehehe….. Amazing to see the changes and similarities inall the areas from these pictures. I saw Star Trek….um…the one with the whales at the Vanity and had pizza across the street when it was Peachy’s……
Yes I remember those mini depots as well. My “commute” from the Tec/Ouellette intersection to Assumption H.S. every morning and back again in the afternoon on my favorite bus… the Transway 1B (a route which has been extinct for at least fifteen years). Then there was the 1C which is still a popular route. It ran more frequently than the 1B and the driver always seemed to spend an enternity in that mini depot on Mill street. My 16 year old mind just couldn’t comprehend that bus drivers got bathroom breaks and lunches too!
Wow, what a trip. Just for the record, that little house on Mill was there until at least the early to mid ’90s. I was a frequent rider on the 1C myself.
THe third picture down mentions the Vanity theater sign, but does not mention another piece of Windsor history, the M & P grocery chain. Started in Windsor and also stores in the county.
Does any one have more imformation?

Back in the middle to late 1960’s I lived just off Jefferson & Tecumseh and had to take the bus over to Pillette & Tecumseh and transfer to the downtown bus going west. IT always stopped at Hick=ory & Tecumseh for the mini depot to drop off and later they built a Country Style Donut Shop on the corner all the buses would stop for breaks.
In the early 1970’s I drove for Checker Cab and spent many night on the cab stand at Hickory & Tecumseh waiting for calls from the Drouillard Road plant 3 for workers going home of to the Canada Tavern for last call!
it’s nice to see that old bus mini terminal at hickory and tecumseh i took the bus from that spot many times one thing i noticed is chryslers seems to have an entrance /exit to the front yard parking lot very interesting
i noticed in the 3rd photo they actually have the passenger platform shovelled clear of snow better than they do these days with bus stops
I remember taking the bus boarding @ Pillette & Seminole . Then transferred by walking a couple blocks over to Droullard not sure what that side street was . This bus would take me to the downtown bus terminal . I would then take a bus to Assumption . I tell my grandson that I never had time for sports since I took 3 buses to & three back from school Then had to deliver 110 Windsor Star daily news papers on my route ( Norman Rd. area & next road as well ). Memories for sure .
