From the Windsor Star – March 12, 1965:
- FINAL STEP – This convent-nurses’ residence is the last building to be erected in an intensive five-year building program by the Sisters of the Hospitallers of St. Joseph at Hotel Dieu. The new residence will stand on the site of the original 126-bed hospital that was opened 75 years ago.
The building on Erie just east of Ouellette is still standing, and is in good shape, although I’m not sure what it’s used for today, seeing as there are no more nuns and no more nurses who reside at the hospital.
Anyone know? I have been unable to locate the architect on this one, maybe J.P. Thomson?

It’s being converted for use as offices. The Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital Foundation just moved in there at the beginning of October, with other departments expected to follow in the future.
thats true that it is now used as offices.not sure how long its been used for that purpose but i remember going in that building as a kid with my mom to make an appointment to check in for a minor surgery.that was over 20 years ago.time flys.
The convent was designed by The Office of Watt & Tillmann Architects of London Ontario in 1964 and built by Pigott Construction Co. Ltd. It is currently being used as office space and an employee gym.
Despite growing up in the area, I can’t, for the life of me, remember what was on the Southwest corner of Goyeau and Erie, next door to the convent. The parking complex is there right now. Thanks.
Ed, before the parking lot, it was a surface lot. There’s an old aerial picture that was hanging in an old area of the hospital, when I was working there, in 2003 and from the cars, I was pretty sure it was from the mid-late ’80s and I was pretty sure I could pick out my mom’s light blue ’85 Topaz. There was likely something else there, at some point, but from the ’80s until they built the parking garage, it was just a parking lot.
