Here’s one today for the railfans. A recent eBay find, from 1986. This shot was taken from the Ouellette Avenue overpass looking west. Thanks to John Stefani for putting his slide scanner to work on this one.
The interesting thing to me is where Leone’s Music world is today, was home to Gateway Volkswagen. If it wasn’t for the trees on the left, we would be able to see Consumers Distributing too…
I purchased this same slide from Ebay about a year ago… This sounds like the guy who selling Authentic slides, is selling Duplicates of the same slide and lying on Ebay… Its still a nice slide tho… I work for Volkswagen now, and every once and a while, the old Parts & Service manager stops by for a visit (as he was with VW in Windsor since 1969) and I showed him the slide when I purchased it, and he said it was the norm to see more of everything else in the Parking lot then VW back then… Now its a totally different story… Also wow how the cars have changed in a mater of 20-25 years…

I miss consumers, although when I would go there they usually didn’t have what I wanted in stock. But back in the late 70s I used to drool over their catalog at the SLR’s like the Olympus OM series. Wheels skating rink was back in that area too.
In the second photo, isn’t that fenced in area the former goofy golf place? I forget what it was called but I went there many times when I was a kid. I remember the Consumer catalog as well- seems like I made my Christmas wish list out of that thing!
Woodall’s was located about where Zehr’s is now. I was in the neighbourhood every day and what I remember most is the stench of the earth as trees were uprooted and the site dug up in gheneral. It was like an open sewer. A wound to the soil was very much like a human body ripped open.
Also, I faintly remember a driving range right around that same area as the dealership.
I think the goofy golf place was Yogi Bear Goofy Golf.
I used to refer to all mini-golf places as goofy golf.
the mini-golf course was right along Dougall, across from the Sentry Department Store. Woodall’s driving range was east of the mini-golf, closer to the overpass. there was also a par 3 golf course there, from well before the overpass was built. it was on the east side of the overpass. ultimately, it became too dangerous to walk over to it, and it grew over.
