Happy Friday, happy long weekend!

Today’s photo is looking south east at the corner of Pitt and Ferry. This was taken during a visit to Windsor by Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. The caption to the photo reads as follows:

SIDEWALK SUPERINTENDENTS – Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker, gloves in hand, stands in the middle of Pitt St. W. today and listens while Roy R. Hicks, Progressive Conservative candidate in Essex East, tells him about the 60 feet of dilapidated red brick buildings which will remain standing beside Windsor’s new Post Office, now being constructed, if present government plans are not changed.

On the same tour, the PM dropped in on mayor Michael J. Patrick for a surprise visit at the “new $1,790,000 city hall, not yet furnished”, he was particularly attracted to the “functional council chambers”.

Have a great long weekend everyone! Remember, no post Monday for the holiday, see you back here Wednesday.

  • I think that if we ever have a museum built in Windsor it should be classically designed and not like the art gallery, Aquatic Waste Of Money, or... The train station. Give it pretty much the same design as the city hall depicted on the Mural we have on the current city hall.

  • What a complete waste. We wonder why our downtown rots? With no cohesiveness it is a pain to walk to find what you need. A few buildings...ugly surface lot...a few buildings (not in great shape)...ugly surface lot...bar, bar, ugly building, store...surface lot.

Yay Windsor! But we can designate the dumbest of structures but then demo buildings that add to the density and cohesiveness of the street. SMH!

  • This doesn't make sense. It was 1958, but the Post Office (now the Paul Martin Federal Building) was built in 1932.

  • If only I could stand across the street and pelt this so-called prairie lawyer with eggs for killing A.V. Roe and anything else his great predecessor, Louis St.Laurent started. No wonder no one wanted to preserve his farmhouse in Owen Sound. Too bad he wasn't hit by a mail truck. Worst P.M. ever.

  • Jim that parking lot you mentioned has a flower bed on the north end (Chatham St)there must be garbage from 2yrs ago and you have to bend down to walk under the dam trees so that shows how well the city takes care of the streets
