Drove past it tonight and it’s long gone.

i used to work with the proprieter Len for the city of windsor public works department i don't recall his last name right off the top of my head it's driving me nuts that i can't think of his last name but i can see his face in my mind gray hair glasses and a mustache
I grew up around the corner on Marentette- it was once called Doris' Confectionary- then was purchased by the Rock Family who lived across the street from us- great candy store!
i use to go too that store when i was a kid when i went too immaculate school back in late 60's always wondered what happened too it through the years
Use to work down the street at Automatic Heating and Cooling back in the 70's and 80's. I use to go there several times a week for a coke and some homemade pepperoni. The owner was a really nice guy and we ended up putting heating and air conditioning in his house just around the corner.
The Automatic Heating building is believed to be the first gas station in Windsor but could be just hear say. It definitely was an auto repair shop with pumps long before my time.
I knew this store well, as a child I went to ecole St edmonds across the street
we knew it as the 'school store',it seems like a long time ago, but penny candy was candy for a cent!
Len's Variety... I am the son of the owner's of Len's Variety, Len & Margaret Rock. We owned the store from 1969 till 1984. There were a couple other owners after us, before it closed and finally torn down. The neighbourhood was full of life back then, the two grade schools across the street and Immaculate Conception Church just down the street. The school yard was very active and kids by the dozens use play together after school and hang around the store. Sure was alot of good people and good times... Wishing the best for everyone that was apart of the old neighbourhood and remember Len's Variety! RR
