Ambassador Bridge – 1940’s

To be fair since we looked at the Tunnel in the last post, from the same series of images, here’s a look at the bridge.

Regional cooperation was evident by the “Welcome to Canada” billboard touting Essex County. Funny how much changes in a half century.

Have a good weekend everyone! See you back here Monday.

  • The bridge has great history, but it is getting old and more difficult to maintain. It is time for a new crossing. As for what to do with the Ambassador Bridge I'm stumped. It has taken us this far, but we need a new bridge to take us into the future. I wouldn't want to see this bridge be gone though.

  • love the welcome to canada and Essex county sign above the booths ,also that old panel delivery truck looks cool

  • There are many suspension bridges equal in age or older that are doing just fine. I would suggest that the current owner has neglected proper maintenance of this structure with the intention of building a new structure next to it. If I recall correctly, I read somewhere that the current owner maintains that when he purchased the bridge, along with it came some sort of charter understanding (part of the original construction agreement) which provided for some sort of exclusive rights to this and any future border crossings; thus the owner will fight the new DRIC proposal.

  • The drawing of Essex Country looks rather out of proportion, as well. A lot has changed in the last 60-70 years.
