Continuing with the postcard theme, here is an undated postcard, probably from the mid 1940’s, showing the Norton Palmer Hotel, which was located at Park and Pelissier.
It was built in 1927, and expanded in 1929. Designed by architects Hutton & Souter of Hamilton, who also designed Windsor Assembly, along with the old GM Office Building at Walker and Seminole. It came down in 1975, just before the Prince Edward that we looked at on Monday.
The building was far more attractive at the street level than what’s there today.

I have so many memories of downtown as a child in the 50's that it seems like another world. My aunt or gram gram and I would take the bus and do bothe sides of Oullette and then we,d hop on the tunnel bus and do Woodword. Back over here, our last stop was at MacPherson's Nut House where we'd pick up a pound of caramel wafers and those hard, round peppermints. Now, what is there? A ghost town. The Cleary, because money spoke, dwarfs the Baby house which is of huge significance historically. There's those hotels on Riverside where if you want to check in you put on your 4ways and park in the street. And, my p.p., those ghastly, urine soaked parking buildings of wet looking concrete, little to no paint or lighting. I go down the drive every day and I see what was in my mind and I really miss it all.

My Grandma was an elevator operator at Norton Palmer. Any chance you remember? Millie (Mildred) She passed in mid 70's. I remember going there and peeking at that large bar. I was younger than 7 at the time I believe. Any chance you being an employee there remember her? Curious?
