To the County today, and a little Inter-Urban history.
As usual, if it has to do with streetcar, and history, we need to thank John and Bernie for digging them up.
The first shot shows an inter-urban car passing the corner of Division & Main St. in downtown (or because its the county – Uptown) Kingsville. This shot c. 1907
This shot from around 1910, shows the powerhouse and car barns in Kingsville. The Windsor Car Barns were located on Chatham St., between Glengarry & Aylmer.
Believe it or not, the old powerhouse in Kingsville is still standing. There are a few shots of the powerhouse today, available for viewing on John’s flickr account here.
Now used for storage of some kind, this part of local history sits by the lake, without any recognition of the important and progressive part it played in the history of Windsor and Essex County.

it's always so strange that i'll be wondering about something and within days you come along and show me where it is/was lol.
i was looking at it recently on john's flickr page and then to google maps to try and figure out which one it was.
it was just this one powerhouse that did the whole WE&LS?!? was the SW&A powerhouse located on the same site as their barn on university?

I grew up in Kingsville/Harrow and I moved to Tecumseh last November. My family still lives in Kingsville. I find seeing these pictures very interesting. The power house is right on the curb of Lavkeview Ave. near the dock. These are pretty neat to see. Thanks for posting these pictures.
I was living in Kingsville when they replaced the sewers along Main Street and came across the old tracks. Wish it was running today!
It's too bad we didn't keep the trolley cars but hopefully things will improve now that the city is finally investing serious money in mass transit. I think people will notice a BIG difference in air quality once the hybrid buses come online.
my mother grew up on a farm in essex i remember her mentioning an old street car that ran from the city out into the county she never knew what route the car took i think she said it was 10 cents to ride it these old photos and information certainly clear up alot of mystery about it i'm curious what does WE&LS stand for ??

Rich - you got it. it went windsor, essex, ruthven, kingsville, leamington
also - SW&A stood for sandwich, windsor, and a'burg. this followed front road. WE&LS basically followed hwy 3
i know what sw&a stood for but i'never heard what the street car company was called i figured it had to be lake shore something or other thanks for the info
