Rossini Court Parkways

Driving out along Tecumseh Road East, at Rossini, you may have noticed them before, or you may not have. At the entrance to this planned community, stands large brick “gates”.

This ad ran in the Border Cities Star, March 3, 1923:

Make sure you “look for the Brown and White signs when Motoring on Tecumseh Rd.” 🙂

No sign of the “playcourts” though…

Along Tecumseh Road there are brick entrances to the subdivision.

These two flank each side of Rossini at Tecumseh.

There are also single piers on both the streets east and west of Rossini, Tourangeau and Bernard.

How these managed to survive all these years is beyond me. Note the one on Tourangeau is built into the edge of a parking lot.

Here’s a sample of some of the houses…

This one is interesting…

… because of the addition someone built on the north side!

[EDIT] As requested, here’s link to a copy of the ad you can read….

  • thanks scooter. i had taken pictures of the pillars for them and wrote up a few letters to use...just couldn't remember how long ago that was.

  • I always wondered about those gates! Thanks. Maybe you could fill us in on the gates at Riverside and Moy. I know soemthing about it but not the whole story.

  • iI don't know for sure but i was told when I was young and grew up in the area that the pillars near TECH.. wre put up as a promise to someone donating land for building homes in the area ??? Also a rumour of the same kind of land for homes in return for putting a Blvd in the middle of the street .. Any comments ???

  • This is an awesome site Andrew! I've always wondered what these pillars were. I live on Rossini but on the other side of Seminole. I have not made it through all your archives but from what I've seen ( started at Dec 2003 ) you are an inspiration to Windsorites everywhere! I think I read in one of the posts that you moved here in the late 80's... I was born in 82 at Grace Hospital. My daughter was born at Grace as well one of the last in Sept 2003. Construction was taking place at MET hospital on Tecumseh Road at the time as well as the SARS scare.....

    Again...

Your site is awesome and I cannot wait to work my way through the rest of your archives to get to your present posts! I have reviewed this site already for hours and have shown quite a few of my friends your site as well. We should all be proud to be from Windsor!

  • WindsorHistoryBuff82, I was also born at Grace in '82. I've gone through every single article on this website, and it has taught me a great deal about Windsor, and some of the surrounding area. I check back on the site daily to see if there are any new comments. Don't forget to read through those, there is a lot to be learned in them, as well.
