This house on Janette proves that it can. Apparently the owner of this place was worried that he was going to be left out of the stucco party, so he decided to “freshen up” this century old house just north of Wyandotte St.
My favourite part of the house is the decorative trim, it matches nicely with the black metal bars. 🙂

I highly doubt it looks better now than it did. I'll bet it even had some really nice gingerbread stylings (that I see on some of the other respected buildings in the neighbourhood) that were torn off and thrown into the nearest landfill in favour of this halfway house/jail looking cladding. All you need is a guard with a shotgun pacing on the balcony above the entrance. Better watch out, it looks like you've given a few people in this thread ideas on how to turn their homes into the neighbourhood jailhouse.
I don't recall there being any arson burnt piles of rubble on Janette St. I do recall some vacant lots for sale where houses may have burnt down. But, fires can happen anywhere in the city.
David there were several over the last few years. Bruce/Church/Janette has been hit pretty hard.
Stucco has its place - such as over adobe bricks in the South West. Stucco over bricks on a house of this age is architecturally inappropriate. It would be better to tear the house down and build something new.
