A few more old photos sent to me by John Stefani, from the collection of Bernie Drouillard.

The S.W. & A. terminal on University Ave. Both buildings are still standing, the one on the right has just had a recent facelift, and was known as “The Junction” in its last incarnation.

A view of downtown Windsor looking north towards Detroit, from about 1927.

The N.W. corner of Ouellette and Erie St., to this day a gas station occupies the same corner.

  • Looking at these pictures of what existed in Windsor and knowing that Light Rail is becoming the new form of sustainable transit, its not a far stretch to think that it could happen again in Windsor. Especially since the infrasrtucture is already there! The ETR rail line runs from Amherstburg like an arrow through Lasalle then through Windsor. These are the tracks that cross Huron line at College. If there was ever an effort down the road to re-activate a form of the S W & A i think most of it is there! Are there any planners out there?

  • WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOUR IDEA WITH THE LIGHT RAIL OR STREET CARS COME BACK TO THE CITY. IF THEY WOULD MOVE THE TRAIN STATION IN WALKERVILLE TO THE OLD ABANDONED WALMART ON LAUZON,IT'S SITTING VACANT .HAS TONS OF PARKING .THIS WOULD OPEN A NICE WELL NEEDED CORRIDOR FROM WALKERVILLE TO THE EAST SIDE (LAUZON ROAD) WITHOUT NOT A LOT OF INCONVIENCE.THAT EMPTY BUILDING ( OLD WALMART ) WOULD HAVE ROOM FOR A STATION PLUS PLENTY OF RETAIL, BOUTIQUE, MULTI USE UNDER ONE ROOF, IT'S BEEN VACANT FAR TO LONG. ALSO THE WIDTH OF THIS CORRIDOR WOULD SUPPORT OTHER USES BECAUSE OF IT'S WIDTH,. A POSSIBLE BIIKE LINK AS WELL THIS STRIP IS PROBABLY 50 FEET WIDE IN A LOT OF THE RUN ?? ANY OTHER IDEAS FOR THIS STRIP ??? WITH RIVERSIDE ,WYANDOTTE, TECUMSEH,&EC ROW THE ONLY EAST-WEST ROUTES ANOTHER WOULD BE WELCOME !!!

  • i know this is an old post, but i can't help remarking on this last photo. i simply cannot beleive that the HUGE home next to the mack's at erie can hardly be seen behind all those giant trees!!! i had to zoom in on it just to see one of her windows! look how much character those trees give the area. that area looks so sterile now.
....almost brings a tear to the eye......wow. maybe the city should invest in some nice....nah, what's the point.
