From the Evening Record – October, 1912:
One by one, the old landmarks are disappearing, owing to Windsor’s phenomenal expansion. The engraving above is made from a photo of the late Alexander Bartlet home at the corner of Ferry and Chatham streets. Since Mr. Bartlet’s death it has been occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Braid. Recently the property was sold to Messrs. Duck and McGregor, who will build a handsome garage on this desirable site, and conduct the agency for the Ford autos for Essex and the counties of Kent and Lambton. Contractor A. A. Little is moving the old residence to another part of the city.

I wonder where the house was moved, and if it’s still standing today?

Not often you hear of a new garage being “swell” or “handsome”. Gotta love the writing style of the early 20th century!
And as an “agency” for Ford does that mean it was the only dealership in the three counties?
Imagine the task of moving a house that size – and in 1912! Imagine the vision that led a contractor to do so in preference to destroying a lovely property as would be the norm today.
Wonder when that house was built. 1880s?

yes it hard to imagine that a house was at that location. i worked as a janitor after hours in the early 80s at the coach and horse and old fish market. they said it was haunted with the spirits off the old fire place from the bar that was imported from scottland with bullet holes in the brass but i never seen anything out of the ordinary. but i most say the upstairs at the time was a big old dark empty space and going up there at night to clean the office played on ones imagination
i had an uncle that worked there when it was a furniture store i think it was called baum &brodies’s back in the 50’s

I agree with Clare. Today our “progress” would be to level the building and leave the property vacant (you know, for tax purposes).
Now if only the owner of the Coach/Loop/FM Lounge would actually do something with the building instead of letting it rot from within.
Coach and Horses is haunted. Believe it or not late at night you can hear a chariot of horses being pulled out back but with further inspection the alley is barren. Hope everyone had a safe easter.
Spectral specialists were called in to investigate that recently and it was determined the noises in the alley were caused by urban skunks rummaging through the garbages.
Back in the 80’s I worked here and the place was alright. About the supposed ghosts: I remember cleaning up one night upstairs and I could hear walking and glasses being moved downstairs. I went downstairs and realised I was the only one in there. Not being one for ghost stories I continued cleaning. Upstairs I heard a similar walking sound not too long after but I didn’t bother to investigate. Coworkers used to comment on hearing strange things as well.
