Above is a shot looking north on Drouillard from Wyandotte St., during the Ford Blockade of 1945. Sadly everything north of the Windsor Co-operative Bakery has been demolished.
The stairs are now fenced in and filled in with concrete. The entire Drouillard Road Subway is due to be refurbished and repaired in 2007.
Even the Windsor Co-operative Bakery still stands. The entire building is now all residential, but it’s still there. If buildings could talk, I bet that one could tell some stories…
could you find pics on what tecumseh mall was before it was a mall?or devonshire
andrew i read a earier post of yours and you said you worked at the old welles bus factory on marentte could you possibly give a little info on it and if the building is still in use?
Sorry to interject. The old Welles bus factory is not really in use (it may still be used somewhat as a warehouse) for any manufacturing of any kind. It was used to house just in time delivery parts for Plant 3 and the “big van” plant. An addition was added in 1998 and the inside was refurbished somewhat.
The last I heard it was up for sale (it is or was owned by Manny Maroun of Ambassador Bridge fame).
i think tds automotive moved in there recently if it is the same shop you are refering too
Yup Paul is right… It was recently rehabilitated and has reopened as TDS Automotive Plant 4. It is used as warehousing, and I believe some sequencing as well. I’m just glad the building is being used again, it’s looked pretty sorry over the last few years.
i have another question do you know andrew if there was a building across the street from drouillard place on st luke st
Tecumseh Mall before it was a mall was likely a field…
Devonshire Mall before the mall was a Horse Racing Track.
Stairs! I have wondered forever what those slopes were for.
The guy who ordered them to be filled in….so…windsor.
After the Devonshire Race Track closed down, it was a farmer’s field. All that was left was a house and a pond with willow trees roughly where the Keg is today.
unfortuntly the old welles bus factory has become vacant again since tds moved thier operations to sprucewood
the old wells bus factory was torched by a couple of teens back late 70’s early 80’s ???
Drouillard road was beautiful it really is a shame when Windsor city council doesn’t listen to its citizens. In my view Windsor should bring back our street cars, bring back those light posts with character not those commercial ones we have today. Living in Windsor for some time now I have come to see that when city council does not consult the people of the neighbourhood bad things happen and special interests take hold. Another thing Windsor needs to do is limit the amount of renters per district, people take pride in owning homes. And renters don’t have that, every area in Windsor with high renters seems to be a bad area. Windsor could be so much more and a lot more beautiful if only city council would listen to the concern of our citizens.
Can anyone find pictures of the houses and buildings next to this bakery, my family has owned maisonville court retirement home at 245 drouillard. before that is was das Rhineland german restaraunt which they opened in the 70’s before that it was milans tavern before that it was a red and white supermarket but we have no pictures please help
