Last week we paid a visit to 907 Chilver, today we had south one house to 917 Chilver.
This house was built in 1912 for Harry L. Berry, who was an Excise Officer. It was designed by Windsor Architects Smith & Walker. Smith & Walker also designed the Grier Apartments in Walkerville.
The house is still in great shape, and has been well maintained over the years.
It’s hard to see due to the tree in the front yard, but other than this dormer added to the attic, it’s not too far changed from the original. Although I have to admit, I didn’t check the chimney…

Thanks for doing a piece on the house. Actually, you were right. The chimney is not original. I was very irritated with the mason who re-pointed it. HE took down the original and put this up. I would love to have advice on how to repair this damage. I have heard that you can paint the bricks to make them look original.
The dormer was there when we purchased the house so not sure when it went on. The house has a name, “Greygables” and the walkway used to have that in it, with the date “1914”.
