Continuing with the early era, edge of Walkerville churches, here today is an old postcard again about 1910, showing our Lady of the Lake church in Walkerville. Last known as Our Lady of the Rosary, the church was built in 1908 and closed in 2007, and it is currently vacant.
The intersection of Drouillard and Riverside drive looked more like a rural setting back a century ago.

This church replaced an earlier church onsite. This little section of Windsor was named Notre-Dam-du-Lac as it was a little French Hamlet.
The Star of the Lake cemetery up on Seminol and Drouillard holds the graves of the original settlers (1880s) even though they are not marked, they must have been moved from an original location somewhere near the river? I’ve never found any info though.
my mother and father were married in this church in the mid to late 40’s the postcard photo looks nice with what appears to be an orchard on the wast side of the church would this have been in the days before Droullard road connected with riverside drive??
my father is buried in that cemetery on seminole
A wonderfully impressive building. Whenever I went by it, it seemed as strong and eternal as a mountain. To think it is closed is heart breaking.
If I remember correctly it’s for sale for one dollar. But I think it’s a heritage site and would have to be fixed , not torn down !!! What gets me it is situated in a mainly industrial, parking lot area. with a sand pile or whatever in front and a crappy sorrounding who would go to a church there ??? How could it be repurposed ??? Who would park there if it was even a parking lot ??? It’s a shame but somebody put a magnificent church in the wrong place…..
If you check the history of the area when the church wad built it was not the place you describe. The sand pile you mention has been gone for many years, the whole area changed in the last hundred years, and the church was there before the industry. Over the years many families attended the church, it’s closure was a victim of rising upkeep and fewer members.
Interesting postcard. Where is the Ford City Hall? I thought it was built at the turn of the century as well?
i am trying to find a photo or post card or anything with the old holy rosary school on it. 1964 or before. cannot find one anywhere. it figures there are photos of every school but the one i went to, until 1964. hope you can help. thank you
