I recently came across this old ad from 1935 for the Essex Wire Company on McDougall. The Essex Wire Factory you might recall was demolished just about a year ago… In true Windsor fashion, it’s been replaced with a vacant lot.
To help jog your memories, a few Google Streetview images are attached, along with an overhead view. Hope everyone had a good long weekend.
*sigh* What things used to be…
Windsor continues to disappoint daily.
It’s strange that the address of the business is 1217 McDougall and close to Tecumseh Rd. At present, the 1200 block of McDougall starts at Giles Blvd.
After the 1935 amalgamation, a number of address changes were made to bring uniformity to the city. For example, my family at one point lived at 561 Devonshire, which had previously been 71 Devonshire.
I loved the presence of those old buildigns on the streets in that area. In little over 15 years the atnrie area is almost one giant grass and rubble strewn lot. Are we competing with Detroit or London circa 1951 for the best looking bombed out city?
