One of the old prohibition era roadhouses, was the Edgewater Inn, in Riverside. It was owned by Bertha Thomas, a very colourful character, who moved to Riverside from Detroit as a widow in the early 1920’s. She died in 1955.
Later known as Adam Martini’s, the old tavern burned down in 1970. It was located on Riverside Drive & Bertha Street. Lilly Kazzilli’s was built on the site of the old Edgewater. The old Thomas house, which was just west of the tavern, was demolished in 1983, with Mayor Elizabeth Kishkon saying at the time the building “really has no history”.

i remember before the marina was where it is today the hotel was long gone but an old garage stood on the site of the edgewater inn until the city decided to build the present day marina according to Marty Gervais book the rumrunners all the bars along the drive abar’s to the rondevous had a buzzer system to warn of impending police raids it would have been grand to live back in those days not to get off topic but today i passed the old CIBC bank @ Wyandotte and ouellette i’m wondering if that place finally sold because there were 2 men working on the north wall applying what looked like the dreaded stucco

I think that CIBC is going to part of the Institute for Diagnostic Imagining that already has a ( stuccoed) facility on University near Jannette ( I think), its run by a physics prof from the U of Windsor, Roman Maev

Kishkon was a horrible mayor for Windsor. Her stupidity (to change a well known statement made in Windsor) knew know bounds.
Adam i don’t think the city has a hand in this the N&D corporation is paying for the restoration of the sign
Iving in Troy Mi. we would go to the Thomas, inn in the 1960’s. We had some great times there. I remember Taffy Arnold , a great entertainer who was there for several months.

I had the opportunity to have my 21st birthday at Thomas’s Inn but it was then known as Adam Martini’s at the time. The buildins were the same as when Mrs. Thomas ran things.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A PICTURE OF ,THE INN FRON ON THE RIVER OR FROM PECHE ISLAND ? I SPENT MANY A NIGHT ,TROLLING FOR WALLEYES THERE ,IT WAS A REAL HOT SPOT IN THE 60s JB.
Does anyone know what used to be at the location of where Chippewa Park is today? I’ve always thought there may have been an old tavern at this spot though I could be wrong. There are old docks and signs of foundation there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I remember playing Boat Captain on the porch when I was a kid, also spent many nights there while dad worked downstairs. I also remember the fish fly hatches is the summer, they were everywhere, and the smell! Yeah, all in all a good memory.
