A neat old view of the west end of Windsor around the Ambassador Bridge, from the mid 1930’s.
A close up view shows Indian Road, and the immediate area.
This image later became a postcard view.
Have a safe weekend everyone. See you back here Monday.
In the close-up, the biggest change between then and now is St. Francis school. I’ve looked, but never found a picture like this that shows the old building and school yard.
The new school was built at the other end of the yard (and where some houses are in this picture), presumably so that the old school could remain in use while the new one was built.
Can you zoom in on the lot which I believe is the (then future) site of the university? It looks to me like the old army huts are in place on the southwest corner which would seem to make this a later picture. . . . or am I totally disoriented which is certainly not unlikely?
Very cool. Pretty sure I can see my parents house on Rosedale and I really enoyed the picture of the old St. Francis.
With regards to the location of the “huts” on the open field – the huts were post world war II. They came to be located in an area shown on the photograph as a rectangular area which at the time was probably tennis courts or something similar. Southwestern Ontario Image Archive has an image showing this as viewed possibly from the bridge.
