Here are few more old transit photos from the Bernie Drouillard Collection, digitzed and passed along by John Stefani. A big thank you is owed to both of them for helping to digitize and share such a massive collection.
Today’s shots are both dated 1975 and were taken around downtown.
First up is a shots of Bus # 747 at the downtown Bus Terminal. Running on the Ottawa line.
This shot of # 724 was taken on University Ave. in front of the late Grace Hospital. It was simply marked “Downtown”. What line was this part of? Perhaps Bernie can chime in.
The late Grace Hospital? They finally tear her down?

I was just born and not living anywhere near Windsor–so I love seeing these–would love to have a day to go back in time and experience the Windsor of that era.
Nice peek at the outside of Steinberg’s in the first photo–and the Goyeau deck when it still looked ‘fresh’.
I entered the world at Grace Hospital that summer, so it’s interesting to see what it looked like then (especially compared to its current state).
I’m taking a wild guess this is what became known as the Transway 1B route.

I seem to recall that the bus route (now basically 1A/1C) had 2 variations – it ran from the west end to Forest Glade and there was also an option that took you downtown where you could transfer to another route. I can’t remember what the name of the route was – although I probably rode it 100’s (1000’s) of times.
Well, the 1B as I remember it was an ‘express’ version of the 1C. For example, I rode it from Tecumseh/Ouellette to the west end and it took about 30 minutes, whereas the same distance on the 1C took 40 minutes because it made more turns and stops downtown.
Navi – Not yet, but she’s not about to reopen anytime soon… 🙂
It is supposed to become a convalescent home with the majority of the parking lot being developed for new houses.

The ‘newer’ bus model that I commented on in a couple of entries before this one, is the bus shown in the first picture above, for the Ottawa route.
JT I saw you were mentioning Steinbergs in the background in the first picture above. Interesting in that, I remember when that building was built and then opened in the 60s, it was then supposed to be the ‘shot in the arm’ for downtown Windsor with a new major Dept store/grocery store and sort of bringing downtown connected to the city market. I read on this site that the building has been demolished, so it never got much of a chance to be a short in the arm for Windsor. very sad.
