wow, I had no idea Met dated back that far. I thought it was built in the 60’s….. I guess thats what that giant grey wall prtrayed to me hehehehe speaking of hospitals I haerd a developer wants to put up duplexes in the South lot of old Grace site….any word?
Yeah, duplexes on the portion that is currently the parking lot. 5 fronting Crawford, 5 fronting Oak with an alley in the rear. The Grace buildings will be demolished (currently in the process of Asbestos abatement), and retail stores to be built on the Univeristy Ave. frontage.
It still needs City approval, but it will be funny to have a private develloper build an “urban village” type project before the mayor can get off his duff and get the ball rolling on the western “super anchor” site. It seems to me that the Grace plan still leaves quite a bit of vacant land in the plan. I’d love to see a rendering of it.
Met Hospital sure looked better with all that green grass instead of that ugly parking lot it has now !!! The least they could have done was painted the parking lot green ( modern day version of grass LOL ). The history pics are looking good keep bringin em.

I would disagree that it’s a monstrosity — the most recent addition/overhang is sort of ugly, but the tower and that wide podium were always a favorite building in windsor. Even if i hadn’t have been born there, it would be alright.
That parking lot though….
Do you have any pictures of the ‘in-between” stage, when the hospital had the 1 storey ramp that drove up to the front doors?
Any idea what those buildings to the left are? Looks like they’re gone now, in favour of parking lots.
My grandparents home was across the street from the hospital on Lens Ave. My grandfather ran the Windsor Business College and also was President of the Rotary club for a few years.
So sad they tore down their home/ or did they move them??
I grew up on Alsace directly behind Met. Used to golf and play football on the grounds beside the nurse residence building and the tunnel that connected the residence to the hospital power plant and main building. The front used to have sunken concrete fish ponds and flowering crab trees between Tecumseh road and the Lens avenue. The building on the east side of the lot was the Fred Adams building used for isolation cases of scarlet fever, etc.
