834 Lawrence Rd

Located at 834 Lawrence just south of the large Shopper’s Drug Mart parking lot, is this odd building. Clad in siding, it stands out as not being like the houses around it. A bit of digging turned up that it was built a church back in 1923. This was the original home of St. Aiden’s Anglican church, which was located here until it moved to a new home at the corner of Wyandotte and…

St George's Walkerville - 2017

Going through some older photographs, I came across these photos of St. George’s in Walkerville, just prior to demolition in April 2017. A condo building is to be built on the site…

Giles Boulevard Christian Church

I recently came across this plan from 1929 for the Giles Boulevard Christian Church. It was planned for the north east corner of Giles & Goyeau, where a much smaller Christian Church can be found. I would only imagine that the depression put an end to this plan. It was…

St Theresa - 1991 Norman Rd

This church always sticks out to me, visible from Tecumseh Road, but kind of tucked away in a residential area. The church was built in 1947, designed by J. C. Pennington. It looks to be in great shape. At a time when church attendance has fallen, and many churches consolidated and closed, it’s nice to see this one holding on. The parish was established in 1925, as a mission of Our Lady of…
