Rachel Kaplan Hebrew Memorial Chapel

This building on the corner of Aylmer and Tuscarora has always interested me. When I was at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue the other week, I noticed references to Rachel Kaplan there as well.
The memorial chapel acts similar to a funeral home. It was built in 1978 (5739=1978).

If they aren’t the same set of plans with only slight modifications, then these two houses are at least designed by the same architect.
I drive past this one all the time on Howard Ave. on my way to work. I always look at it and think what a diamond in the rough it is. The house is very handsome with its unique styling.

I’ve driven past this church for years, and wondered about it. It looks like it was built minus the tower and steeple. I’m guessing that it was designed, as many churches were, to add the rest later as the funds were raised.
The sign on the outside reads…
