Another of Windsor’s legendary taverns, lost to history is the old Bridge Tavern at University and Bridge out towards the University. I spent a lot of time here in my youth, and it was a great place amongst the University crowd as well as locals.

An image above shows the Bridge House in 1950. The building eventually closed and was demolished.

  • One night, I was in there one night with a friend. Bill Lee, former MLB pitcher (Boston and then the Expos) was in town, playing in some sort of amateur baseball tournament. He was up at the bar wearing his Expos warmup jacket.

  • According to the history article about nearby Atkinson Park, the owners of Shore Acres Hotel, B. Segal Company of Detroit, wanted to close Shore Acres and open a new licensed establishment. They did that, it says, opening a new business at London St. and Partington. I grew up a few blocks west and cannot remember a tavern at that corner—only thing comes to mind is the Bridge House, a block away. Did B. Segal own the Bridge House? If not, what did they do at London and Partington? Can't find a name for it or a photo. (Glad they did relocate, though, because I enjoyed several summers at Shore Acres Pool and I do remember the hotel, too, while it stood.)
