What a grand old City Hall we use to have and what a shame it’s gone. (along with the CIBC, Post Office….)
The more I read and see, the more I’m sad about how much of our history we’ve already lost and how vital it is versus “development” for the future.

I for one am glad those eysores are gone! Pffft – they’re made of bricks for godsakes – good riddance!
Read another article today about the demolition of the Ford Casting Plant and some of Albert Kahn’s workmanship in the process. Is something special planned for these lands when the buildings are gone or why couldm’t Ford have just tried to sell the plant?
Is there a reason why some outside entrepreneur couldn’t have found another use for this plant such as casting construction materials such as steel “I” beams, studs, spikes, and other buildings materials? It’s close to the Detroit river for easy transport, has railway and road access. I mean, if they sold it for what land in that area is worth these days and saved on demolition and environmental cleanup, I’m sure the foundry would have been cheap enough for some investors to have made a go at it. When everything’s all said and done, the demolition will probably end up costing more than the market value of vacant land. All of Windsor’s history is just getting levelled without any thought for alternative uses.
Despite the incompitence of “PW HERMAN”….. I agree with BBS and his/her comment. It truly is a shame that there not many of the beautiful buildings we once had anymore. Everything from the original city hall to the original Hotel Dieu. I being one of the thousands of 19 year-olds living in Windsor, I for one wish I could have seen the older Windsor.
Hey Mayor! Stop “Progressing” all over Windsors Herritage and keep some of that beauty alive!!
It’s nice to see pictures of Windsors past, even if their from 93 years ago. But to make a comment, hey mayor stop progressing, is no relevant because many of these buildings where gone before the mayor and council of today where born. If you want to blame somebody or something, it’s called progress, and being practical.
Most of the building where torn down or relaced because it was not practical to renovate or perserve, due to many reasons, building changes,work place safty and working conditions.
It would be nice to be able to keep all the historical building in top condition and usable, but since this would cost enormouse ammounts of money we will never see it happen.
The preservation of history in the Windsor-Essex county area is not great, maybe it will improve in the future.
