From the mid 1920’s a shot taken down by the old Ford Plan on the river. The car in the front #104 is a Tecumseh line car, and to the rear is an unidentified Ford City car.

Great shot Andrew not to get off topic i read on the editorial page of todays star some twit wrote in complaining about the Peabody Building and is asking the city to consider knocking it down (hope not!)he said he thinks hundreds of windsor residents would be happy seeing it gone well he doesn’t speak for me
And he does not speak for myself either Gary. Would be a shame if they knocked it down.
The person who wants that building torn down must either be a very young person with no appreciation for history or an old crabby person. It isn’t even the Peabody Building, that was already torn down…in 1985…but it’s the Walker Power Building….so the ‘twit’ doesn’t KNOW what he’s talking about. It should be left alone, as a landmark.
I believe that it is the Walker Power Building; the Peabody Building was demolished in 1985 or so.
Nonetheless, there must be some creative re-purpose available for this building.

Great photo. I sure love looking at these old streetcars. It makes me think that perhaps one day we will get our senses back and return to this more civilized lifestyle.
I sure hope I don’t hear any more of that idea!!! The walker power building is one of the last pieces of decent heritage architecture in that immediate area. We already lost the Peabody and flat iron buildings. I’ll chain myself to that old girl before I let the wrecking ball at it! I’m pretty sick of the city allowing our few remaining heritage buildings to be demolished. And this person who wants to add it to the riverfront??? What an ignorant idea. We don’t need a city full of parks and parking lots. Sure parks are great but only to a point. We need buildings with shops and homes more than we need open grass land and a few swings in an area which already has easy access to greak parks. This person doesn’t know much about planning. Perhaps he or she needs to read the work of Jane Jacobs. Jacobs clearly illustrates the need for more of the “regular city” when discussing the problems with parks.

The Walker Power building is an interesting building. It’s a part of our history but architecturally it’s kind of blah. The building has been for sale for how long? It’s falling apart. There are trees growing inside the building, it looks like a dump inside. The only reason why I’m saying these things is I think without intervention this building will eventually succumb to the elements (broken windows), the ivy, the trees and whatever animals are living inside causing havoc. A building like this in a city like Toronto would probably already have been fixed up and made into some chic loft or something, but that market just doesn’t exist in Windsor right now and whether or not the building will be saved in time is the big question that I wonder.
