As you might remember, our favourite vacant lot owner, the man who illegally demolished the Seagrave Building, also owns Champion Paper, as well as the neighbouring Clean Depot.

And this one are incidental in photos I have of the Seagrave Building prior to demolition.
Now, his attitude, I must admit, pissed me off a little. One of the things I always meant to do was take a photo of that sign, and drop a letter to Home Depot about his possible copyright infringement. Sadly I never did, but I think someone else might have…
I noticed yesterday, driving past that the offending sign was missing from the street, and…
Someone pulled the logo off the front of the stucco too.
As Nelson would say… “HA-HA”.
A quick look at the website: http://thecleandepot.com shows their new logo, as well as an airbrushed version of the building.
I wish I could take the credit, but I can’t. So whoever made a call, or sent a letter, I can only say good job. Don’t let the pressure off this guy. He’s not a good citizen. In fact the vacant lot where the Seagrave stood is in violation of several zoning laws, with the outdoor storage he now has on the site. So more fines are coming…

and HA! good for whoever it was, this guy is a peice of garbage. i actually just got mad seeing those crushed seagrave building bricks on walker.

Frankly speaking, I can’t believe such an obvious rip-off of the HD logo lasted as long as it did.
That is one butt ugly roadway! Talk about one prime example of the post industrial modernistic era, that road takes the cake, the candles and the door prize fore being butt ugly. The speed limit should be 200 KM per hour through there, so you don’t get sick looking at all the stucco!
Hey! It just dawned on me, that street above should be preserved as a Heritage way/route!
Yeah, we could call Walker Rd. the stucco heritage route.

Interesting about the Clean Depot copyright/trademark issue. Since HD is relatively new to Canada, they probably didn’t encounter the Clean Depot until recently. I bet there was a flurry of letters back and forth. Certainly creates the potential for consumer confusion, the ordinary consumer test and all.
The sad thing about Walker is that it is an artery, having these buildings on side streets wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe the city could just condemn the lot of them, and push the buildings about 200 ft back and build a nice divided roadway with green space and (gasp) trees.
I’m sure that crazy vacant lot owner would love that. But it might make Walker a nicer drive/walk/bike path. The path could tie into one along EC Row, like along 275 in Michigan.
Champion Products looks like they’re ripping off Champion Sparkplugs, which just uses the name “Champion” in their logo. They supply sparkplugs for the Chrysler assembly plant, so they’re pretty big in this city. Someone should report that trademarked name too.
That sign always made me laugh. There was a fast food place in Emeryville called “Taco Bill” and it had a chihuahua on the sign. I can’t believe that these people are not creative at all and think they can get away with copying someone else’s logo.

This guy has now had 3 buildings set on fire. The police and insurance companies must not care…it doesn’t take a detective to know somethings up.
